It enjoys breathtaking views of the harbour. No question, it’s a must stay when visiting Shelburne. c1785 George Gracie arrived from Boston, created the dwelling which served as a residence and a store. In fact, he brought it to Shelburne as a vertical 2 story log building and reimagined it. In the early 1900’s, J. Chandley Smith repurposed the 2nd building, using it as a cooperage. In 1917 he relocated it across the road where it continues as an active barrel making factory. Current owners take great pride in this business and the historic integrity of The George Gracie House, The Cooper’s Inn B&B for over 30 years. Respect for its past has been nurtured by continued investment in its future. The main house provides 3 guest rooms on the 2nd level with varying views of the harbour. Each room is complete with a private ensuite bath. On the 3rd level is an amazing apartment-suite that sleeps 4. It’s completely self-contained, with kitchen, bath, laundry, living and dining room and 2 private bed chambers. In 1996 it was awarded an architectural design award. The original cooperage is home to 4 ensuite rooms, complete with seating and comfortable amenities and private entries. Unwind after a day of exploring in the comforting garden oasis. Calm and tranquility can not be denied. The colors of all the varieties of flowers and garden life help make it more like home than might be imagined.
